Our Story?
The Sea Cadets was established by the Navy League of the United States at the request of the Department of the Navy in 1962 to "create a favorable image of the Navy on the part of American youth".
Today the Sea Cadets continue to further the image of our maritime services by:
- Developing an interest and ability in seamanship and seagoing skills
- Instilling virtues of good citizenship and strong moral principles in each cadet
- Demonstrating the value of an alcohol-free, drug-free and gang-free lifestyle
- Exposing cadets to the prestige of public service and a variety of career paths through hands-on training with our nation's armed services
The mission of the Sea Cadets in Bakersfield is to build leaders of character by imbuing in our cadets the highest ideals of honor, respect, commitment, and service youth programs.

Benefits of Our Program
The program provides cadets with not only the motivation and encouragement to pursue their dreams, but also concrete assistance in achieving them. The value of community service and the virtues of good citizenship form the core of the program, which works to instill these traits into each cadet. Cadets are NOT required to join the armed service once they turn 18, but they will enter as an adult having been taught the fundamentals of citizenship and the value of being responsible and productive members of their communities.
Parents and Guardians
Becoming a parent or guardian in the Bakersfield Sea Cadet program is an exciting opportunity. Unlike other military youth programs, the Sea Cadet program allows your son or daughter to step out of their comfort zone and seek challenges.
- Safety is on on priority. All our our volunteers undergo regular background checks and cadets are under adult supervision throughout drills and trainings.
- We meet normally the 3rd weekend of every month.
- Away trainings are conducted during school vacations.
- Annual Enrollment Fee is $90.00 and Uniform fee is $200.00, this does not include shoes. We have monthly local dues of $10.00 a month. Summer and winter training cost vary by the training and range between $150.00 and $300.00 per training event.
- In compliance with the Americans' with Disabilities Act (ADA), it is our policy that no qualified person be excluded from participation in, denied or otherwise subject to discrimination by the USNSCC simply because that person has a disability. The USNSCC will grant reasonable accommodations where necessary to permit full participation.
Our Training Opportunities
Throughout the year, cadets regularly meet for activities with a local unit. During school vacations, cadets have the opportunity to participate in training events around the country. We have over 400 units across the United States and in Guam and Puerto Rico. Cadets train aboard U.S. Navy and Coast Guard ships and can meet Sea Cadets from around the world on our International Exchange Program.
- Cadets and Leaguer Cadets attend Recruit training Or Orientation( boot camp): a Face-paced 7-14 training focused on basic military instruction and team building

- SEALS
- Maritime Interdiction
- Space Camp
- Leadership

- Master-at-Arms (Military Police)

Membership Benefits
Cadets have the privilege of wearing the U.S. Navy uniform with appropriate Sea Cadet insignia. Cadets have absolutely no commitment regarding future military service, but cadets who do decide to enlist may be eligible to enter at an advanced paygrade. Cadet experience also helps individuals become more competitive for commissioning programs. Annual scholarships are awarded to exceptional cadets who wish to pursue a college education.
